Share
At LEXS LOUNGE, we specialise in creating safe, high-quality, and long-lasting lash extensions that enhance your natural beauty. To get the best results, proper preparation before your appointment is just as important as following the aftercare.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to do before your lash extension appointment to ensure a smooth process.
Why Preparing for Your Lash Appointment Matters
Arriving at your appointment with clean, healthy lashes makes all the difference in how well your extensions adhere and how long they last.
Proper prep ensures:
✔ Better Retention – A clean, oil-free lash line helps the adhesive bond properly, preventing premature shedding and lash loss.
✔ Faster Application – Your lash artist can focus on perfecting your set instead of cleaning residue from your lashes.
✔ Ensures Mutual Understandings – Ensuring the what you are asking for is what we have picture in our mind is the same so you can leave here with as close to what you desire.
✔ A More Comfortable Experience – The right prep minimises irritation and keeps you relaxed throughout your appointment.
24 Hours Before Your Lash Appointment: What to Do & What to Avoid
Your pre-appointment routine plays a big role in how well your lashes turn out. Here’s what you need to keep in mind:
What to Avoid
✔ Avoid Caffeine & Stimulants – Coffee, energy drinks, and pre-workout can make your eyes twitchy, making it harder for your lash artist to work. When you consume these products your eyes 'flutter' and slightly open which can result in irritation and discomfort - it also makes it extremely difficult to lash which can lead to poor retention and application.
✔ Skip Oil-Based Products – Avoid oily cleansers, moisturisers, mascara/eyeliner and eye creams, as they can create a barrier that prevents the adhesive from bonding. This barrier isn't as easy to remove from your natural eyelashes
✔ No Heavy Eye Makeup – Mascara, eyeliner, and eyeshadow can be tough to fully clean off, and any residue left behind can affect retention.
✔ Avoid Curling Your Lashes – Lash curlers can crimp your natural lashes and cause breakage making it harder for extensions to be applied evenly. Coming to your appointment with curled lashes can also give your artist a false sense of what your natural eyelashes look like which will affect on judgment on which lash curl will be best for you. PSSST. We stock over 5 different lash curls.
✔ No Waterproof Mascara for at Least 48 Hours Before – It leaves behind a residue that’s difficult to remove completely, affecting lash attachment. It also consumes at lot of time - sometimes taking up a good 15minutes to throughly remove the waterproof mascara.
Day of Your Lash Appointment: Final Prep Steps
1. Shower & Wash Your Hair Beforehand
Since we still recommend that you should avoid getting your lashes wet for at least 24 hours after your appointment, it’s best to shower beforehand. This prevents any temptation to expose your lashes to water, steam, or humidity too soon.
✔ Wash your hair, face, and body before your appointment.
✔ Avoid using oil-based shampoos or conditioners near your eyes.
✔ Steer clear of hot steam in the shower, as it can open your pores and make your skin oilier.
2. Go to the Bathroom Before Your Appointment
Eyelash extension appointments can take anywhere from 1 to 2.5 hours, depending on the style you're getting. Since your eyes will be closed the entire time, it’s best to use the restroom beforehand to avoid any interruptions.
✔ Arrive a few minutes early to take care of this before getting settled.
✔ If you have a longer appointment (such as a full set), limit fluids beforehand to stay comfortable.
3. Bring Inspiration Photos of What You Like & Don’t Like
To ensure you get the perfect set of lashes for your style, it’s always helpful to bring photos of lash looks you love—and even ones you dislike - these can be more helpful than you realise.
✔ Each artist will have a different understanding. for example; if you ask for long lashes one artist might assume you are after ridiculously long lashes whilst another artist might assume you want a little extra length. In this instance you should bring a picture of eyelash extensions with the length you like along with a picture of eyelash extensions with lengths that you do not like.
💡 Pro Tip: Every eye shape is different, and your lash artist will tailor your extensions to complement your features. Be open to professional advice while still communicating your preferences!
4. Remove Contact Lenses (If Applicable)
If you wear contact lenses, consider removing them before your appointment. Your eyes may be more sensitive, and closing them for an extended period can feel uncomfortable.
Wearing contact lenses can cause irritation as in very rare cases the fumes from the eyelash adhesive can become trapped underneath.
✔ Bring your contact lens case and solution if you need to remove them.
✔ If possible, wear glasses instead.
5. Avoid Heavy Perfumes & Fragrances
Strong scents can be overwhelming in a closed environment, especially in a lash studio where adhesives and other products have their own scents. Keep it light to ensure a comfortable experience for both you and your lash artist.
6. Be On Time & Come Relaxed
✔ Arrive on time to get the most out of your appointment.
✔ Avoid rushing in stressed—take a few deep breaths and enjoy the experience!
✔ Bring headphones if you like to listen to music or podcasts while getting your lashes done.
💡 Pro Tip: If it's your first lash appointment, arrive a few minutes early to get comfortable with the environment and atmosphere.
